A machine with many slower cores may cost far more in licences than one with fewer quick cores, and the database would not use the extra threads anyway. So we price the configuration together with licensing, not just the monthly rental.
Typical signs are ERP reports that take a quarter of an hour, slowdowns at peak times despite a bigger VPS plan, and a client contract requiring isolated data. If none of these applies, a VPS usually does the job for less.
